Hardap Inland Fisheries & Aquaculture Science Forum 16-17 August 2016

The annual Science Forum for aquaculture and inland fisheries hosted by the Hardap Inland Aquaculture Center (HIAC) from the Directorate of Aquaculture and Inland Fisheries (DoAIF) of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) took place at Hardapdam Resort from 16 to 17 August 2016. Scientist and stakeholders in these fields presented the latest research. The forum was attended by MFMR's staff, Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF), University of Namibia, Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), National Commission on Research Science and Technology (NCRST) and private fish farmers (2)

Mr. Denis Tweddle from the Namibia Nature Foundation gave the Key Note Address on behalf of Dr. Olaf Weyl from SAIAB. He also prepared and presented the wrap-up of the 2 day proceedings covering all the presentations

The forum was opened by Honourable Chief Ankama, Deputy Minister of the MFMR. The Key note address "Fish and Fisheries in Malawi"was delivered by Mr. Denis Tweddle of the NNF on behalf of Dr. Olaf Weyl from SAIAB. The presentation provided important lessons on inland fisheries management, highly relevant to Namibian inland fisheries. This was followed  by 34 presentations on different topics mostly presented by DoAIF (MFMR) from different Inland Aquaculture Centers in Namibia.

The award for the best presentation went to a KIFI labourer, Mr. Richard Thinyemba who presented "Prelimenary findings of the annual floodplain harvest, in the Kavango River" He presented data that was collected by the KIFI labourers and technical staff of KIFI. These staff members also reside in the local village of Kamutjonga. The presentation was prepared with assistance of KIFI research staff.
