South-South Cooperation Programme Annual Review Meeting: Windhoek 22 November 2013

The Annual Progress Reviev meeting of the South South Cooperation (SSC) Programme  (Namibia/Vietnam/Spain/FAO) took place in Windhoek on Friday, 22nd of Novemberat 14:00 pm in the boardroom of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Babagana Ahmada (FAO Representative for Namibia), Dr. M. Hasan (FAO, Rome), Madhy Mbamba (Senior Officer SSC Team, FAO Rome), Mr. Lopez (Programme Manager, Spanish Cooperation), Mr. Francois Rutt (FAO Consultant, Freshwater prawn and Largemouth Bass), Mr. Dihn van Trung (Team Leader Vietnamese Technical Assistance), Mrs. Unda Tjihuiko (Deputy Programme Coordinator, MFMR), Mr. K. Kandjou (Secretary for the meeting, Fisheries Biologist, MFMR) and Mr. Renier D. Burger (Chairperson, Deputy Director: Directorate Aquaculture MFMR).

The Deputy Director for Inland Aquaculture and chairperson of the meeting , Mr. Renier Dawid Burger welcomed all the participants and officially opened the meeting.

The purpose of the meeting was to review the progress of research projects and other activities under the SSC Programme. A presentation  on the progress with regard to the SSC Programme was prepared by Ms. U. Tjihuiko, Dr. Moses Maurihungirire and Dr. Trung. The presentation highlighted different components of the the workplan in terms of:

  • Start-up activities (5)
  • Capacity building for the Directorate of Aquaculture with 6 research proposals evaluated in terms of achievements, challenges and the way forward as well as capacity building of fish farmers
  • Extension activities
Mr. Lopez, Programme Manager, Spanish Cooperation also made a follow-up on the Cooperation Project between the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation and the MFMR, funded by the Spanish government and implemented by CETMAR with the assistance of the Directorate of Aquaculture in the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. The Project: "Strenghtening of Aquaculture Development in Namibia as a tool aimed to improve the economical growth in the country" is operational since 18/3/2011 to 18/3/2015.
